In October of 2016, Sara and Tyler Pytlik were full of excitement and anticipation for their future as they began their life as husband and wife.  They were looking forward to experiencing all that life has to offer and happy to be sharing it with each other.  They were both so grateful to have found the person they wanted to spend forever with.
But life has a way of being unpredictable, and before they even had time to settle in as newlyweds, they got the devastating news that Sara had T-Cell Lymphoma. The next few weeks were a whirlwind of doctors appointments and further testing revealed that in addition to the T-cell Lymphoma, she also had thyroid cancer.  She soon underwent surgery to remove the half of her thyroid that was cancerous. The next week she began 12 rounds of radiation and once that was complete, started chemotherapy.  She is now in her third week of chemo and will be doing it for about three months. Further testing will be done at that time to determine how her body and the cancer has responded and what further treatment, if any, will be needed. She is under the care of the wonderful doctors at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and they have told us that her prognosis is very good and that a full recovery is definitely possible. This of course is what we hope and pray for every day.
As one can imagine, this has taken a toll on this amazing young couple in every way possible - physically, emotionally, mentally, and financially.  They have insurance coverage which has been an enormous blessing but the medical bills for something of this magnitude are staggering. Her and Tyler have already spent close to $5000 out of pocket and there will be more to come. Anyone that knows Sara can tell you that she is simply one of the hardest working people you will ever meet and in spite of the overwhelming fatigue and nausea caused by the radiation, she worked almost right up until the end of those treatments. Her doctors have told her, though, that given her fragile immune system that is the result from chemotherapy,  it is necessary for her to take leave of absence from her job. Although Tyler works full time, staying on top of the medical bills in addition to living expenses will be nearly impossible on one income.
As friends and family of Sara and Tyler, it is our desire to lighten their burden in any way we can and show our love and support to them in this most difficult time. The most important thing for them to focus on is simply getting Sara healthy again so that they can move on with their lives without the shadow that has been cast by the burden of cancer.  Everyone knows that the first year of marriage can be an adjustment but they have definitely had to deal with things that most young newlyweds never even imagine, In spite of this trial, they have both maintained their optimism and sense of humor. Their strength is an example and inspiration to us all.
As difficult as it is to ask for help, that is what we are doing on Sara and Tyler's behalf.  Any donation amount would be so appreciated and even if you are unable to do that right now, you could just share this with your friends and family.  That would also be appreciated and go a long way to help as many people see this as possible.
On behalf of Sara and Tyler, as well as their families, we thank you so much for your kind words, love, and support as well as any financial assistance for them that will be given.  It is times like this that we pause to reflect on what is really important and come to appreciate how precious life is.
