Beths medical expenses

Our friend Beth Swanson has been an employee of the Hemet Unified School District for the last ten years. She is the Idyllwild Elementary School office manager, responsible for coordinating the many tasks required to keep the school running smoothly and efficiently. Beth and her husband Barth, also a Hemet Unified employee, have been married for twenty five years. They have two sons, Jacob, a student at the University of California Santa Cruz, and Max, a student at Mount San Jacinto College in Menifee. Beth is easily recognized by her welcoming smile and positive attitude.
 Beth has recently been diagnosed with Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma, a breast cancer. She is currently undergoing a chemotherapy regiment. In December her doctors have a lumpectomy scheduled as part of her treatment. After her surgery her follow up will require out of town travel for thirty five straight days to have radiation treatments. Although insured, Beth and Barth have run across many expenses that are not covered. The cost to travel back and forth to the various appointments is substantial. There are copays required every step of the way. Smaller, unanticipated costs have added up. While struggling with this illness she remains at work, saving her sick leave for her recuperation. Meanwhile all of her financial responsibilities, such as the expense of two sons in college remain in place.
