Support Win in Relocating to Thailand
Donation protected
We're reaching out with a heartfelt plea for "Win", a friend and trusted taxi driver for many BSY teachers, who now finds himself in a dire situation due to the ongoing turmoil in Myanmar. We're aiming to raise enough to help him to relocate to settle as a refugee in Thailand.
Following a donation to war refugees, Win has been targeted by the Myanmar military, facing accusations that have put his freedom and safety at extreme risk. His possessions were seized, and went into hiding to avoid arrest - a situation that could lead to severe consequences given the Myanmar military's reputation for harsh treatment including torture, forced labour camps or desth. To escape the threat of arrest and potential harm, we were forced to a substantial bribe to ensure his safety and the return of his possessions, including ID documents.
Despite this, Win found himself being tracked and followed and realised he wasn't safe. We raised some initial funds to secure his safe travels into Thailand.
He no longer feels safe in Myanmar and so returning is not an option while the military are in power. He has had to leave his family and face the reality of trying to build a life from scratch in Thailand. There is a growing number of Myanmar refugees in Thailand and so we hope that he can integrate into this community and find a job and somewhere to live.
We completed an initial round of fundraising from those who knew him to reach this point, but this was only able to get him across the Thai border. We are now asking family and friends if they are able to support Win with his final costs to integrate into Thailand.
We are aiming to raise £2,500 initially, which will go towards legal costs, transportation and resettlement costs for Win. If we end up with a surplus then this will be donated towards organisations supporting Myanmar refugees to help others like Win - sadly due to the brutal regime of the Myanmar military there are many.
We appreciate any help that you are able to give Win. Thank for any donations.
