Gracie's Emergency Surgery

Dear Friends, Family, and Animal Lovers,

We are reaching out to all of you on behalf of our mother, Monica, and her beloved rescue chow mix dog Gracie, who are currently facing an unexpected and overwhelming challenge.

Two weeks ago Gracie experienced a life threatening health incident that required immediate medical attention. Thanks to Monica’s quick response and the amazing care of the veterinary team at Ryan Hospital, U Penn, Gracie survived. She had to undergo intensive emergency abdominal surgery for gastric dilatation volvulus which led to a twisted stomach, perforated stomach and sepsis. She required extensive post surgery treatments and care, which kept her in the hospital Intensive Care Unit for ten days.

During this time vets discovered that Gracie suffers from nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, a condition not related to the medical emergency that brought her to the hospital. However, she will need further testing and a treatment plan for this condition, which is treatable and non fatal.

The fact that Gracie is in recovery and has a hopeful prognosis is incredible news. Those of you who know her know she is the sweetest, most loving, "Gracie Good Girl." She has so much more life to live.

However, the cost of Gracie's emergency medical care to date has added up to a staggering $26,000. Monica is now grappling with this unexpected financial burden, and anticipating further medical expenses for Gracie's nephrogenic diabetes insipidus treatment in the months to come.
