Where do I start!? My sweet friend Sandra Sorio, who is a Hospice employee was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma stage 4. She can be described and defined by the words grateful, kind, accountable, selfless, dependable, and compassionate. If there was ever an earthly angel, my sweet friend Sandra would be one of them. Countless co-workers can agree on one thing and that is Sandra is an incredible human being. Sandra and I worked for Kindred Hospice. She was a Home Health Aid. The families of Sandra’s patients praised her kindness and compassion. She always made herself available to work extra hours when the staff was short even under the pain of needing a knee replacement for years. She was always worried about the patients, always respecting their dignity so gracefully. Sandra eventually transitioned into the office as a Patient Care Coordinator. She turned out to be her bosses SAVING GRACE!!! Her intelligence, work ethics and speed was hard to match. But, it was no surprise that after a few years and a transfer to TX to be near her son, that Sandra left the comforts of the office to go back to the selfless, back-breaking job of being a Home Health Aid again. She said she needed to go back to her calling of helping people directly and being hands-on. An HHA’s job is very hard mentally & physically and it takes a very special person to work with the patients. Sandra has once again relocated, but this time, to be near ‘The Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Phoenix.
She spent a week in the hospital for her breathing where they put a catheter in to do pleural drainages. She had 2 liters of fluids drained from her left lung. She then got a port inserted to start her chemotherapy. The financial hardships of moving twice, combined with being off work, her husbands own health problems while starting the job hunt again has surely made a hard time even more panicky and desperate. Those words don’t come from Sandra, as she can think of nobody else other than those less fortunate and in more need than herself. I am doing this post without her knowledge, as she is too much of a giver to entrust me telling her ahead of time, as she would be too prideful and not feel she should be put financially above someone else. Her glass is ALWAYS 1/2 full! The Power of $5! Gofundme is a joint effort and even $5 times many times over would equal a whole lot of love to someone who has returned the favor many times in many ways to family, friends, strangers and patients ❤️
