We're Gonna Lift a Lifeboat!

Donation protected
MAYDAY! MAYDAY MAYDAY! We're gonna lift a lifeboat!

*What we’re planning...*

To Lift a Lifeboat (A Trent Class Lifeboat, weighing 28,000kg, to be exact) through a collective, team effort, doing squats.
Pretty simple really.

*Who it’s open to...*

Anyone who wants to do their bit and support a local charity that is close to our hearts

*Where it’s taking place...*

In TonedFit, Howth

*When it's taking place...*

Saturday, May 18th @ 1200

*How you can get involved...*

Step 1: Enter a team of between 3-6 people
Step 2: Email [email redacted] to enter your team
Step 3: Raise €150 per team mate
Step 4: Come up on the day and, between the team, squat until you have lifted the equivalent of a Trent Class Lifeboat (28,000kg)

There will be prizes for the fastest, best technique, best looking etc…
We’ll also be throwing a few curve balls in, for fun, like last year.

*Some maths...*

To put this in perspective, based on a team of 3, it’s:

934 squats with a 30kg bar
That’s just over 300 per person
Break it into manageable sets of 15 with 20 reps in each set.

Obviously, the higher the weight you choose to put on the bar, the less the amount of reps you have to do

934 squats with a 50kg bar
That’s just over 180 per person
Break it into manageable sets of 15 with 12 reps in each set.

*Why it’s taking place...*

It’s in aid of the RNLI - The charity that saves lives at sea. May is the month where they do a big push with their fundraising.
The RNLI receives no government funding, in any way, and relies solely on the donations of the public.

*What a Trent is...*

It’s a big, orange and blue, All Weather capable Lifeboat that is moored in Howth, and other stations around the coast of the UK and Rep. of Ireland.
It’s crewed by volunteers from the local community that undergo rigorous, continuous training to help save lives at sea.
If you’ve been to howth before you’ve definitely seen it, unless it was out on a ‘shout’, moored beside the RNLI boat house on the middle pier.

*How the money gets spent...*

Your donations are spent on all aspects of the RNLI station from training costs, to running costs, to equipment and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
Without it the station simply cannot function.

An example of running costs in Howth RNLI are at approximately €7,000 a week.
This ensures both boats, the Trent ALB (All Weather Lifeboat) and the D-Class ILB (Inshore Lifeboat), are operational, fuelled, equipped and available for launch 24/7 with a fully trained crew.

*Why it’s so close to our hearts...*

Well, we’re in a close knit community that relies on each other. One of our own trainers, Ronan, and several of our members members are crew for Howth RNLI and give up their time, for free and at a moments notice 24/7.
We overlook the Boathouse and are very aware whenever a ‘shout’ is in progress be it from the sirens, the sound of the helicopter overhead or the deep revs from the Trent's twin MAN engines as it exits the harbour, in all types of weather and sea state.
