My Tennis Volunteering in Cameroon

Six years ago I began volunteering for tennis without borders. Locally, I have been collecting tennis clothes, shoes and rackets for years. Most of the kids I teach in New England are also heavily involved in the collections and are learning the importance of giving back. Together we prepare the equipment to go to children in need around the world.
In 2014 I was introduced to Joseph Oyebog from Cameroon. Since then I have travelled three times to Cameroon to work firsthand with the Oyebog tennis Academy ( www.otatennis.org) . These children have the opportunity to rise above their life of severe poverty through tennis and education.
My time there is invaluable. I am able to encourage these children to stay in school and to practice hard. In addition, I am able to bring over many of the donated shoes and rackets and give them directly to the kids.
I hope to travel this year to Cameroon and devote my time to seeing these children have opportunities in life. Additionally, I will be bringing two of my students from New England (age 15) as well as an Elementary Special Education teacher from Maine. After 18 years of small progess, their school is opening this fall with 16 kids, who will live there full time. Since educational tools are much needed, my goal is to bring 16 tablets to enhance their learning opportunities.
Your donation would go directly to helping with the kids school fees and supplies, medical expenses, as well as travel expenses to bring over donated equipment. Thank you for your support!
