ABOUT PMA NEW ENGLAND
Philippine Medical Association of New England (PMA New England), a 501(c)(3) organization of Filipino-American healthcare leaders in the New England area united to develop and implement strategic charitable healthcare programs with measurable impact in local underserved communities in New England and abroad.
BUILDING THE NETWORK
The group started to build a sense of community through initial meetings and circle gradually grew in size to reach beyond the Boston area. Members reflected on the various reasons of why they practice in Boston and the need to maintain a cultural identity as they progress in their chosen specialty and career. Thus offering regular networking events and maintaining strong interest in the group became priorities.
PHILANTHROPY AND CHARITY WORK
The Philippines is fraught with natural disasters and the resources available to improve the health of fellow Filipinos are currently inadequate. Organizing medical missions and exploring ways to contribute and give back to the country of origin were felt to be important goals, especially as for many members, the Philippines is where they derived inspiration to become physicians.
VOLUNTEERISM
Volunteerism is valued as members contribute and support efforts for the organization to ensure and maintain its operations. Member contributions include time, talent and financial support through donation and membership dues.
