Deb's cancer treatment campaign

Donation protected
I have started this page as a way to help my good friend Debbie Garrett complete her much needed breast cancer treatment. Deb was first diagnosed with stage 3B inflammatory breast cancer in October 2007. She was treated for her highly aggressive breast cancer with a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and 6.5 weeks of radiation. In May 2015 Deb received a layoff notice from her job working for Northwest Center. She had 15 days to take care of any medical screenings before losing health insurance. As if being laid off was not stressful enough, Deb's mammogram came back abnormal. Two biopsies later and Deb's 7 years of remission, almost to the day, ended. Deb was diagnosed with a second breast cancer of her left breast. This time the pathology was stage 3, hormone receptor positive, and unfortunately spread to her first sentinel lymph node. She was able to qualify for the Washington State Breast and Cervical program which would allow her to receive treatment. This time she was tested for the BRCA gene and it came back positive for BRCA 2. To date, she has had her mastectomy and 6 rounds of chemotherapy.  She is at a very critical place in her treatment regime and has now ran out of unemployment benefits, was denied any extension of benefits, does not qualify for disability, and still needs 6.5 weeks of radiation, and eventually a prophylactic hysterectomy. I am asking for the help of all of Deb's friends, family, and anyone else who simply wants to help her through this final portion of her treatment.  If Deb does find employment she ultimately will lose her state funded insurance which is paying for her radiation, which could severely interrupt her needed treatment. It's discouraging that it's so difficult to qualify for benefits and keep benefits when so many situations arise. The amount of money a person is allowed to make to qualify for benefits is not even a livable wage. She is essentially at a place where finding a job with a liveable wage will keep her from being able to receive all necessary treatments. Any new job will have a delay in insurance coverage and will cause a major delay in her treatment. Unfortunately, cancer doesn't consider the implications of unemployment and insurance benefits. Please consider donating to help ease the financial burden Deb is experiencing while undergoing daily radiation treatment for 6.5 weeks. If you are not in a position to help monetarily please share this page with your friends and family.
