Shelters for Calais

We, a mixture of volunteers, students, architects and builders are making shelters for the people who are living in camps as refugees in Calais. We need your help!

Conditions are very bad in this surprisingly wonderful and welcoming place, a place which is a triumph of human inventiveness.

We are adapting a design by Pritzker prize winning architect Shigeru Ban, who designed humanitarian shelters using cardboard tubes and then offered them to the world. The shelter structures are being made at the moment in Fablab limerick.

We have been super busy bees over the past six weeks, and now we need to purchase the last supplies.

Our aim is to build four large shelters, one for every major ethnic community Sudanese, Eritrean, Afghan and Syrian. Here up to 15 people can gather, in each, and cook and stay warm in the winter months.

We will start building with the men in the camp from October 1st....shipping shortly with the large Irish convoy (cork Calais refugee solidarity) and joining forces with them, to build as much as we can in the camp.

So far,we have done this through personal donation, of time, money, effort, materials and ideas....we now need a bit more for the final push...please help !!
