Hi, I’m Emma, and I run Purton Cattery . When we moved here nearly three years ago, we didn’t realise how many stray cats were actually in the area.
Before setting up a cattery we used to volunteer for a local cat trapping service, and in that time alone, not only did we help over 200 cats in Swindon and surrounding areas we managed to help two local cats here at home.
We have now caught six local stray (sometime injured) cats all needing veterinary treatment of some sort.
This seems to be a recurring problem in this area where cats are getting fed but not getting any vet treatment so therefore have incurable diseases such as FIV and severe dental issues after a lifetime of not seen a vet.
We have been very lucky so far and with the help of friends and other rescues we have managed to get cats the care they need.
We currently have two un neutered male cats in our care, Rocky and Denzel.
(we are trying to catch a local stray with a severe skin condition, but end up catching every stray cat apart from him !!)
Rocky is very much a scared feral and will need a feral placement like a farm.
Denzel is a friendly chap and once he has his bits done will hopefully make a loving pet (fingers crossed he doesn’t have any other underlying health problems)
Cats protection League are brilliant, and we get neutering vouchers from them for all of the strays we help but then we also need to pay for their microchips, FIV test, vaccinations, parasite treatment, dentals and any other treatment they may need and it gets very expensive!
The last dental we were quoted £625 to remove four teeth!
Therefore we are setting up the GoFundMe for the Purton strays and beyond. We have two going into the vets this Friday for the full works and we’ve only fund raised some of the money needed so if anybody has a spare pound or two that could help us with out we would be really grateful.
you can always ring Drove vets and put it directly onto our Purton Cattery vet account too
If anyone has any further questions or has rescue spaces/farms for these feral/friendly cats please feel free to message us directly on Facebook. Many thanks, Emma
