Purrs and Pastries Cat Cafe Needs Your Help!

$1,300 of $10,000 goal

When Portland's first cat cafe closed it's doors in late 2018, I knew my dream of owning the next Portland cat cafe had come to fruition! In December 2018, I started the process of bringing Purrs and Pastries Cat Cafe to life. In January I found a great location on the west side, in Tigard, to rent and have partnered with Felines First Rescue to feature adoptable kitties in a comfortable, quiet living room-like setting!

I've reached out to a friend to help me run the daily operations in the cafe where we will feature delectable treats from local bakeries.  We've met with a variety of vendors to feature in the retail shop area of the cafe as well.

At this stage of the plan, I am seeking financial support to fund the initial start up process including the purchase of equipment and supplies for both the cafe and the cat room.  I have found a counter, cash register system, bakery display cases and a refrigerated display case for cupcakes, cakes, cookies and pies.

We will "catify" the cat room with vertical areas for cats to play and jump to safely made by Hauspanther systems. In addition we need to purchase a POS (Point of Sale) system that integrates with a credit card processor and focuses on all aspects of running a small business including inventory, sales projections, staff time management duties and e-commerce responsibilities.

I am working hand in hand with Steve, my SCORE SBA mentor and have the business plan and 4 month financial projections spreadsheet completed and ready to present to the lender for the majority of the funding that I am seeking.

We all know that cat cafes are spreading across the United States very quickly; and we KNOW they work to help adoptable cats find their forever homes! Visiting adoptable cats in a setting other than a busy, loud and stressful shelter increases their chances of having a positive interaction with potential family members. Cats that aren't in cages are more friendly, less territorial and able to put their best foot forward!

And to have a comfortable, quiet and relaxing setting to watch cats and their visitors is what a cat cafe is all about!

Whether someone has an allergy to cats in your family,  if your landlord doesn't allow pets in your home, or maybe you just love cats and don't have one in your life: Purrs and Pastries Cat Cafe is the place to come on the west side of Portland to mingle with friendly felines and grab a sweet treat!

I'm hoping to get the doors to Purrs and Pastries Cat Cafe open in mid April! We've got to get the architect plans done, the build-out coordinated and the checklist for seating, tables, cat trees, cat play systems, dishes and coffee equipment outlined.

By donating to our fund, you will become a "Clowder Partner" and will
receive a one year membership to Purrs and Pastries Cat Cafe.
Members will receive discounted admission to the cat room, and savings on pastries and beverages in the cafe. I'm super excited to get my dream up and running and thank you for your donation!

SO; we are hitting a brick wall with a major lender. So I've reached out to 6 more banks and 2 non-traditional lenders that work with women / minority enrepreneurs to see what they can offer in terms of financing options.

In the meantime, I am still forging ahead (hey....it IS me, after all) and I have signed up to participate in a few local community events including the King City 4th of July Festival and Parade and at the Explore Downtown Tigard event this fall. I've rented booth space at each event and am prepping for the marketing needs and a few fun items too. Possibly looking to have some of my retail / artist vendors wares for sale too! I'm also looking at adding a local cookie bakery to the list of folks featuring yummy treats....cat (shaped & decorated) cookies!

I'm realizing this may take longer than I had initially hoped for and am coming to terms with that. It's a big venture and I understand. So, I will keep moving along and pin all my hopes and dreams on this, my next BIG DREAM! I thank you all for your continued support!! ~T

So, we are in the final stages of the "paperwork" prep stage: good grief, this takes forever! I have the initial numbers from the architect to put to the Business Plan and am re-doing the Business Plan and Financial statements. I'm contacting 4 banks this week and will be setting appointments to do a Lender Pitch when I get someone interested! This is the "hard" part for me: waiting and hoping. I know I can do this and I can picture my days in the cafe already! I couldn't do this without the enthusiasm and support of my friends in the cat loving community!! Hoping to get all of the finalized paperwork submitted, the Lease signed, and the construction started as soon as humanly possible. It really does #TakeAVillage.

It's All For The Kitties!
When you think about the growing trend of cat cafes...it's really all about getting the kitties into forever loving homes! Having 'adoption centers' be more welcoming, for both cats and visitors; that's the key to success! The living rom concept is one that is less stressful than the typical bank of cages of cats and kittens; pawing at the bars, wanting to be held and cuddled...the new world of adoption is here! Everyone can interact on their own level of comfort. Cats are cats....some are aloof, some are skittish, some are outgoing and enthusiastic. Showing off their best selves in the warm, welcoming, comfortable surroundings invites the bet kind of interactions with the public.

Not every visitor will be looking to adopt a new family member; we get that! But for folks wanting to cuddle a cat, play with a kitten, pet a napping cat while reading a good book...that is why Purrs and Pastries Cat Cafe will exist! And we know the numbers of cats of all ages will get adopted. the US phenomenon of Cat Cafes is here! We thank you for taking the epic journey with us and the Portland cat loving community!

Pictured here is Elinor and her "Brave" babies; Fergus, Gordon and Merida! They should be ready for adoption at the end of May Come meet them once we open!
