What You Need to Know?
ERRAHMA for Hemodialysis and Organ Transplant is a non-profit organization that provides treatment and support for patients with kidney failure in Tinghir province, Morocco. Tinghir is an economically marginalized province with a population of 322,412 citizens, who don’t have access to adequate public health services. Since its creation in 2005, ERRAHMA continues to be engaged in helping patients who need dialysis and cannot afford it. Due to the lack of resources and inadequate public health services for patients with kidney failure, ERRAHMA raised funds to establish a hemodialysis center designed to host 19 hemodialysis machines. Thanks to generous donations, ERRAHMA now has 13 machines serving 64 dialysis patients twice a week. However, due to the increased number of patients who need dialysis, ERRAHMA is still in need of at least two more machines to serve more than 80 people weekly. Currently, these patients are forced to travel hundreds of miles to other cities to receive treatment.
What Is Hemodialysis?
Hemodialysis is a way of cleaning wastes from the blood artificially. The kidneys normally do this job. If the kidneys fail, the blood must be cleaned artificially with special machines. In hemodialysis, blood slowly flows out of the body to be cleaned by a dialysis machine called a dialyzer, or artificial kidney then sent back into the body. This process usually takes couple hours a day and is repeated few times a week depending on the severity of the condition.
How Can You Help?
Tamunt, a non-profit organization registered in Virginia, and ERRAHMA Association are partnering to expand the hemodialysis center services to the low-income patients in Tinghir province* . This will allow an equal accessibility and affordable dialysis service to more extra 80 patients in that region where most patients could not afford dialysis treatment.
Tamunt and ERRAHMA are collaborating to raise funds to purchase two dialysis machines. Each machine costs approximately $15,000. With your contribution and support, we will provide a better access and affordable dialysis service to people in need. In a place where health services are almost non-existent, YOUR donation will make a BIG difference and give a dialysis patient a chance in life!
