Cotton needs orthopedic surgery

Donation protected
Cotton needs medical treatment for her dislocated right front shoulder.  She can't really walk well since February 2018.

Cotton's background makes this even sadder. Her life didn't start off well.  She lived in a puppy mill. It was really bad.

I'm her foster mom but with her long history of recovery she has been at my home full time and I adopted her.

Video below...

She dislocated her shoulder in February 2018.

Medical needs:   Surgery consultation and xrays: $589 (already done).
Surgery and post op vests and meds:  $5353
Rehab:  $1200
This all actually comes to $7,142.

I'm asking for only the amount of surgical related visits and procedures.
I've also spent over $1000 on her out of pocket on vet visits to this point so I'm beyond what I can handle.

Here is the actual estimate for surgery from VOSM...

And her history...

It's really worth reading...

Her history is what makes this surgery so needed.

Pet Adoption League took her in from a puppy mill. She hid from everyone, cowering, shaking, messing herself when people came into the room. She was so filthy even after a bath and shaved, she had feces and dirt stuck on her. Sores, rotten teeth and #12 tatooed into her ear.

I took her home to help her heal, foster her, but wow what a broken dog.

Her very first night in my foster home:

It took a very long time for her to trust me. It was the most painful thing ever. Getting better was glacially slow.  Every day I felt like a failure because she was running from me, wouldn't eat in front of me, pooped when I'd come near her crate.. I didn't keep her in there, open door, but she ran into there so fast to get away from me, she banged the walls of it trying to get to safety.  If I removed it she circled endlessly until I didn't know what else to do but put it back.

But from the very beginning,  she was curious and happy on walks, hikes.

I realized outside on a walk she acted like a dog. This is her second walk several days after I got her.

Back at home she just reverted to running back into crate, peeing, hiding, it was awful.

So I took her on lots of walks to get her used to people and new things.

She broke everyone's heart. My mom came up and we took her to Ohiopyle after about a month. People gave me nasty looks. My mom chased down everyone who did that and told them why she looked so bad, she didn't want them thinking I reglected her.

Then a discussion with everyone about puppy mills..... on and on... no one had ever heard of such a thing. So we told everyone.  She helped. All you had to do was look at her. We talked to a lot of people.

Then one day, out on a walk, a year and a half later, when I took her to a park, I saw her running... and this look on her face. (below)

I took her out a lot. August 2015 above...

She smiles on walks, it's undescribable to see it. There's a lot of information in that smile, to me anyway.

The various vets think Cotton has weak legs from living in that crate all those years. Her back knees are both unstable, that created pressures other places, then came the injury in February 2018, her dislocated shoulder. For which there is a surgical solution. A very expensive one.  She's so worth it but I can't afford it. And she loves our home and I can't bear to rehome her. So I'm asking for help.

She really enjoys life now, even with this injury she is happy, but I'm not satisfied with her hobbling around like she does, not for the rest of her life. Which the vet thinks could be many years, she is very healthy otherwise.

Please help me get this beautiful dog back to running like this again.  I just don't have this kind of money.

She has a lot of life left!! I will personally invite everyone on here to come on a hike with us after rehab, which is 4-5 months after surgery. It's a real treat to see this dog smile. She had 5 years of cage life and 4 years of freedom. Vet says she could live to be 16 or more, she's  very healthy, I have her on the very best possible real natural food.

For now, this is what we are doing... She wants to go so badly... so I got her a backpack to carry her. She is happy in there because she's with us

Please find it in your heart to give any amount no matter how small towards her surgery. Humans did not serve her well in the beginning.

100% of all money collected will go towards Cotton's medical care with the Pet Adoption League's oversight of the money. They took her in. Then I took her in. They are still helping with her, which is so awesome.

Cotton doesn't know it but she has touched a lot of people on our many walks. There is soul in that sweet face.
