Pumpkin's Life Saving Surgery

Donation protected
This campaign has been established to help support family members with the costs of veterinary bills to get their dog the surgery he needs to help him walk again. Here is what they have to tell you:

“Pumpkin lives in Ottawa, Ontario. We are not sure exactly how old he is as we got him from Rosie Animal Adoption Rescue in Quebec, but we believe he is approximately 10 years old. His life didn’t start out easy. He was diagnosed with Lepto and Parvo when he was just under a year old and had to have surgery right away.  He is an important and loving family member and we couldn’t image life without him and we are so grateful that he is still with us. For many years now he has had sensitivity in his back legs. About a month ago, we noticed he was having a hard time walking and he would limp around the house to the point where he was in so much pain, he wouldn’t walk at all. Believing he had arthritis, we took him to the vet twice so that they could try and find out what was bothering him. These visits plus pain medication and blood work cost around $570.

After these visits, it only got worse... He would drag his legs around, not being able to walk properly and we were then referred to a Veterinary Neurologist at the Ottawa VSCAN Clinic. With the appointment costs and medications, this was an additional $240. During this appointment we were told by the neurologist that they believe he has Intervertebral Disc Disease. This is when the cushioning discs between the vertebrae of the spinal column bulge or burst into the space of the spinal cord causing pain, nerve damage and even paralysis but that he will need an MRI to be sure. He will be getting the MRI tomorrow, February 8th, 2018 which will be an additional $3,115.07. If the neurologist is correct, he will need surgery right away which will then total up to $6,311.78. Without this surgery, the neurologist believes that his quality of life will deteriorate rapidly and he will need to be put down which is the last thing we want to do. The vet’s believe that besides this issue, he is a perfectly healthy dog and believed to have as many as 6 good years ahead of him. If more tests or medications are needed, it could end up costing us more, which is something we had not prepared for hoping that our beloved pets would never get sick.

We understand that there are more important things in life that may need your donations, but a pet will always be a family member, and we don’t want to lose one of ours. He is loved by so many, including his dog brother Duke and his human brother Brody. Even if we raise $10 or $1,000, it will all go a long way in helping us with any additional costs that may come our way.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity, it will never go unnoticed. If you’d like to help us further, please share this link to your Facebook Timeline.

We will keep you updated with anything we learn in the coming days!

Love,

Chrissy, Corey, Brody, Pumpkin and Duke”
