Hey everyone!
After receiving many friend’s requests to start a fundraiser, I’m finally doing it!
My goals have been to apply to a nursing program however there are financial obstacles that prevent me for pursuing my career. I did not make it into the very competitive nursing programs in the Bay Area, however, I accepted an offer made by California State University, East Bay (Hayward) for a Bachelors in Science in Biological Sciences: Microbiology (concentration). After my Bachelors, I intend on pursuing nursing post-baccalaureate programs.
I am a person living with HIV/AIDS (since 2007) that has been hospitalized a few times in the past. I have been through health issues that were complicated through my compromised immune system. Currently, I’m doing much better however, still struggle with chronic pain, arthritis, depression, PTSD, Chronic IBS and chronic fatigue off and on. Even still, I try to look towards my future in healthcare as someone who has a lived experience that can be of serve to others.
As a queer person of color that has struggled with health issues since adolescence, it can be hard for me to feel deserving of the love and support I have received over the years. The truth is that we all deserve this and much more. My goal ultimately is to be of service to folks, queer/trans people of color through healthcare, providing support. However, life keeps teaching me to invest in myself first so I can get there.
Please consider donating to support my educational goals so that I can ensure my survival in the Bay Area. An old Federal student loan for massage school over 11 years ago is blocking my access to FAFSA for my current enrollment at CSU East Bay. Without FAFSA, I have to pay full price tuition as well as costs for books, supplies, etc.
My fundraiser will be towards (updated 1/2020):
- br />- tuition fees from CSUEB. ($3700)
- books and supplies for Spring ‘20 semester ($300)
- funds for supplies, books, fees in future semesters
- assistance in paying for an old loan that is blocking my access to FAFSA financial aid ($3500)
Any amount that exceeds my goals will be towards my savings toward my educational goals, such as books, transcripts, etc.
