Pull Up The City Nature Ninjaz Youth Program
Too many Chicago youth become victims to violence because they don't have a safe place to exist. Our young people deserve access to resources that encourage them to express themselves in creative and healthy ways.
Pull Up The City is asking community for help to run our 8 week Nature Ninjaz youth programs to normalize nature for kids growing up in the hood. We are raising funds for our Black & Brown youth on the South and West side of Chicago to be awarded scholarships.
Workshops/activities included in our program:
- Qigong & Kungfu
- Conscious Construction (building raised beds for the garden)
- Yoga & Meditation
- Gardening & Growing
- Calisthenics & Fitness
- STEM program (learning how to test soil)
- Field Trip Fridays (a different nature/garden exploration every week)
Including a 3 day 2 night camping and canoeing trip!
Mission Statement
Pull Up The City takes a radicalized approach to healing racialized trauma in BIPOC communities by creating experiences that energize and empower underserved youth to connect back to nature. By creating greater access to nature and transforming spaces with events that are prioritized for BIPOC youth we inspire them to naturally heal and authentically evolve. We build and beautify under-resourced neighborhoods and provide access to healthy food, revolutionary art, and world-class fitness by building community fitness gardens on the west side of Chicago and hosting FREE wellness workshops for BIPOC community members.
Vision
Pull Up The City normalizes nature for Black and Brown young people growing up in the hood as a form of holistic healing and violence prevention through accessibility. We strive to close the 30-year life expectancy gap in Chicago between individuals who live in predominantly BIPOC communities and those who live in predominantly white communities. By closing this gap we’ll ensure that BIPOC young people have the knowledge, skills, and education to create a life where they can thrive and sustain not only themselves but their communities as well.
