Mission to Puerto Rico 2018

Our God is an amazing God. I am humbled looking back at all the challenging times in my life and how He has orchestrated them all for my good. He has blessed me with a wonderful and supportive wife, five wonderful children, a place to serve full time in His ministry at Tejas and a wonderful community of believers at church. He has grown me and given me opportunities through my family growing up, mission endeavors in my teenage years, college, service at Tejas and even graduate school in Organizational Leadership. Just when I think it can’t get better than this, He pushes me a little further.
To that end, over the last year, He has been opening my heart up to join a mission team. I don’t say go on a mission trip, although we will be taking a trip to serve people in need, but to be a part of a team. Growing up, I had the privilege to go on many mission trips that allowed me to see the world in a whole new light. I would say through God’s eyes. Those times in my life cultivated a heart for service and a perspective only given by the Holy Spirit. He has shaped and molded me into who I am today as a leader. I definitely have not “arrived” but am constantly messing up and learning from those mistakes to become more like Christ. My desire is to help others experience this type of transformation through missions. I want to be a part of Christ’s story in their lives where they are given a new perspective and vision for service for Christ.
Our church has been in partnership with a church in Puerto Rico from before the hurricane last fall. Now with the devastation and the need to rebuild, there is even more opportunity to share the love of Christ by first meeting their physical needs. I would like to join the team this summer to help continue this ministry partnership. Can God still work if I don’t go? Yes, He can. This is bigger than just me checking a box. This is about allowing God to not only use this opportunity to grow me but to also include others in this process. It is also about helping others in their relationship and obedience to Christ’s calling in their life.
I would like to invite you to pray for and give generously towards this mission. The cost is $1000 but I would like to see us give $2000 in order to help someone else in our church to go who does not have the relational network that I do. Our church is a mixed community of believers who are in all stages of development in their walk with Christ. What an amazing testimony it will be to say that people they do not even know are praying for and supporting them in taking another step in their journey with Christ.
Please ask God for yourself if this is something He wants to use you for. I will be praying for you as well and if this is not where He is leading you, I pray that you continue to seek where He is leading you and dive in. To me, that would be the greatest joy knowing you are constantly finding out ways to serve Him in all you do.
