Thank you for stopping to consider a gift to the publishing of my first book. Let me tell you how my story developed, and yes I'm launching this on my birthday.

I consider myself an all American girl brought up on healthy food, a healthy lifestyle and healthy loving parents. Always a "healthy" child but curiously my school report cards would claim that I was a "day dreamer" something that was chalked up to my personality. In college I was drawn to study Exercise Science as a primary means to maintain good health and always excelled in subjects that did not require deep concentration. One day I would be diagnosed with a named medical condition. How did this happen when I was doing so many things to stay healthy? A number of years later I became interested in yoga. I wasn't surprised by the physical developments of yoga  but completely surprised by the mind developments.  As the years went by my body took on another named medical condition that included symptoms of brain fog, poor memory, anxiety and poor sleep and it was only then that I had to open my mind even further to understand how this was happening. As my attention to mindfulness had improved I took to developing a new open mindedness to learn cause and discovered the body presents symptoms in response to something the body recognizes as foreign. As soon as I allowed myself to be open to new information it was as if the flood gates of information came to me.  Understanding that substances that had been put in my body was likely the cause of my developing conditions. Removing the substances from my body is it's own story of discovery and fortitude like no athletic event I had ever endured. This story is the discovery of MINDFULNESS. When the substances are gradually removed from the body, health is restored.  As the substances were removed, the symptoms that had become my normal all went away. Gone was the day dreaming, no more brain fog, gone was the anxiety and my memory started to improve as I found myself singing songs and remembering all the lyrics.

Katie is a character who has been in my head for 20 years. Her story has changed as I have changed. She has the power to get your attention. Keeping your attention just like my "day dreaming" as a child can be very difficult. Perhaps you have this challenge too, or maybe your child. First finding it must be understood and then learning what serves as distractions from holding your attention becomes yet another part of developing your mindfulness. I really enjoyed reading to my children. I hope that my Katie and her adventures will bring you a place to bond with your child and awaken your mind to the exploration of the inside and outside experiences as a human being.

My first book is written and currently being illustrated by an amazing animation artist, Matt Vogler. He brought Katie to life in a matter of moments and she is completely darling. As Matt worked to create illustrations for the first book a number of other characters came flooding into my mind and I have much creative work to do and I hope that my story will offer you and your loved ones a place of grace, truth and compassion. We all have discoveries to make in the world of mindfulness. Thank you for your gifts here at GoFundMe to get me started with publishing costs. The money raised here will go for publishing expenses. I have paid my illustrator Matt out of my own pocket and have now partnered with Writers Republic to edit, layout and print hard cover, paperback and eBooks. Soon after the audio book which I know how much it can help bring a child into reading as they are able to follow along. Also very helpful for the individual who is challenged to maintain focus while reading. Thank you for sharing my project with those who might be motivated to help me as well.  As I look into the future I see this as a time to heal many of the things we have accepted as normal. I am excited about how Katie and I will grow together from here.  I hope the story keeps giving and giving back to you and your loved ones.
