Help the Working People of PTown During covid-19

As of April 6, this fund has been suspended. Thanks to the 113 donors who raised nearly $15,000, which in turn was distributed to almost 40 local families and individuals and provided real, substantial help to people in need.

In response to the recent coronavirus outbreak, Governor Baker has banned business at bars and restaurants in Massachusetts as of March 16, 2020. This is probably a good and reasonable decision, given the current health crisis. However, at the same time it is basically eliminating the income for hundreds of restaurant, bar, and other workers here in Provincetown. These people, in many ways, make up the backbone of this town.
In ordinary times, we all know what would be happening. Somebody, somewhere- a musician, a drag queen, an artist, would be screaming, "Let's put on a benefit!" and before you knew it, it would be feathers and sequins and guitars and accordions, and everyone would be piling into some club or another to put on a show and raise a ton of money for everyone who needs some.
But these are not ordinary times.
We may not be able to pull on our drag and fill an auditorium, but we can still raise a ton of money for our friends and family and our neighbors who need it.
This emergency may end quickly, which would be fantastic. But it could drag on for many weeks or even for months. Many of the working people of Provincetown, like much of the country, are only a week or two away from financial disaster. At this time of year, the savings which many people have been relying on to get them through the lean winter months are quickly drying up. Every shift missed represents not only lost income, but money spent just to to get by. This is an expensive town in which to live as we all know. Let's be sure that everyone has the food and medicine they all need, and enough money to pay the rent or the mortgage. The first of the month is always looming just ahead.

This fund is being organized and administered by me, Paul Halley of Provincetown, an individual. My goal is to provide financial assistance with no strings attached to hourly and tipped employees in Provincetown who have been impacted by restrictions imposed by the covid-19 outbreak. Recipients should receive funds with no red tape after filling out a very simple good faith questionnaire, according to need and date requested.
I do not intend to keep any money for myself. Any unclaimed funds at the end of this emergency will be donated to worthy local charities such as ASGCC and SKIP.

IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE
as of March 26, 2020 we have suspended accepting new applications for help. Unfortunately the demand for assistance has outrun our funds. If we can reach our target $ amount, we will be able to help everyone who is waiting for help as of today. If we exceed that dollar figure, we will of course begin offering help as we can.
