PT Service Trip to Jamaica - NMH

Donation protected
Hello friends and family,

Last year many of you supported a group of us from NMH Rehab on our therapy service trip to Port Au Prince, Haiti in April 2017, where we spent 10 days working in a small clinic to serve people in need. We worked with a variety of patients and met some amazing people along the way.

This year, NMH is sending two therapists, Sheila Morrissey, PT and Ryan Boudreaux, PT along as part of a trip through the group Therapy Missions. The trip is to a small community outside of Montego Bay, Jamaica, at a facility called Jacob's Ladder. Jacob's Ladder is a group home run by Mustard Seed Communities Homes out of Boston, which houses over 100 adults with various disabilities who are not able to care for themselves or integrate into the community. These people have little resources, a lack of knowledgeable staff, and many of them could have a significantly improved quality of life with the ongoing efforts of groups like Therapy Missions, and therapists like us that have a passion for helping others.

Therapy Missions has been around for about 10 years, and has held over 40 different therapy trips to countries all around the world, from Mexico to China. Therapy Missions upholds the ideal of providing a sustainable change in the communities they visit. They provide extensive training to the staff members at each location, in addition to hands on, evidence-based treatments for the patients themselves.

See what Therapy Missions is all about!

The NMH Team:

From our NMH team, Sheila will be attending her first abroad service trip. She has a passion for helping others and is excited about the opportunity to make an impact in the Jacob's Ladder Community. Ryan has been on 3 PT service trips before, twice to St. Elizabeth Parrish, Jamaica, and once on last year's trip to Port Au Prince, Haiti. Both of us are eager to put our heads together and try to make a lasting impact on the patients and the community.  We also recognize and appreciate that their lives will be impacted by the people they meet and the culture we will learn about while in Jamaica.

We are extremely excited about this opportunity, and want to thank you all in advance for any support we receive for this trip. Donation or not! We hope to bring back many stories and experiences, and will be updating everyone on our progress! Please feel free to ask questions, post comments, and share with anyone you think might be interested in our latest adventure!

As we say in Jamaica: "Jamaica no problem!"

Sincerely,
Ryan and Sheila
