My grandparents were quick to pressure me into giving up money for a proclaimed "backrent", which they have never discussed or charged me with in the past, and are often pressuring me into giving them what is essentially a third of my check every single week since I started working.

<div>My partner, of whom moved down just shy of a year ago, has been struggling to make any progress with work at all despite applying to several locations in person and online. As much as he would like to contribute, he cannot and it pains me to see that him moving up here was the worst choice we could have made. I could have gone down there and he would have had work to support us (and likely I would have work as well), but my mother insisted I stay here instead.

<div>I have seen him and gotten to know him personally pretty well over the span of 3 years, and he's exactly who I expected when we first met. Her insistence put doubt into my mind, and she continues to do so with every argument. She's constantly demeaning both of us, claiming that I "won't be able to live by myself", "can't take care of a cat properly", and that "I'm going from one mentally ill family to another" without having met said family.

<div>My mother and I were planning to surprise meet him at his house at the time about 2 years ago, but it kept getting pushed further and further back... just like she's trying to delay our move now.

<div>Between the tenants I call my grandparents downstairs extorting money from us to my mother's juxtaposing manipulation about "wanting to help", my partner and I are trapped. We need every cent we can get before my grandparents try to take it all as a form of "backrent" or try to kick us both out before we can move properly.

<div>We are trying to move out by August 31th, or by September at the latest, safely and with ourselves, our fur baby Ninja (my cat), and our possessions intact. When we get to where we're going, we have the job opportunities and the capability to manage ourselves without the interference of my manipulative grandparents getting in the way.
