PSU for PPE

Tax deductible
WE ARE:
Penn Staters. We are students, alumni, faculty, staff, family, friends, and fans. We are service members. We are Olympians. We are teachers. We are artists. We are CEOs. We are scientists. We are record breakers and award winners. We are first-round picks and first in the nation.

We are nurses.
We are doctors.
We are healthcare providers.

From Happy Valley to Hershey to Houston to Hong Kong to Hamburg. From State College to Scranton to San Francisco to Shanghai to Sao Paulo. And everywhere in between.

WE NEED:
Personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers. Healthcare workers rely on PPE to protect themselves and their patients from being infected and infecting others. But shortages are leaving doctors, nurses and other frontline workers dangerously ill-equipped to care for COVID-19 patients, due to limited access to supplies such as gloves, medical masks, respirators, goggles, face shields, gowns, and aprons.

Among those healthcare workers in need are countless Penn State alumni, friends, and family.

WE CAN:
Help. No gift is too small! Your donation will support MedShare’s coronavirus response campaign. Since the World Health Organization declared coronavirus a global health emergency, MedShare has donated more than $1.3 million worth of aid, including more than 2.8 million masks and nearly 200,000 isolation gowns. Coronavirus is now a global pandemic, and the need for medical supplies and equipment to fight the outbreak is tremendous.  Your support will ensure that MedShare continues to have the supplies needed and are able to respond quickly to help healthcare professionals, clinics, and hospitals in the U.S. and around the world as they fight to contain coronavirus.

Rated a 4-Star Charity by Charity Navigator, Medshare has offices in Seacacus, New Jersey,  San Leandro, California, and operates its headquarters in Decatur, Georgia. MedShare is committed to serving the needs of healthcare providers nationally.

A national crisis necessitates a national response . According to the Penn State Alumni Association, there are more than 650,000 living alumni in all 50 states, not to mention more than 18,000 alumni living around the world. This total does not tell the whole story, however. Included in our community are faculty and staff that now call Penn State home,  proud parents of first generation Penn Staters, the spouse that married into bleeding blue and white, and the friend that fell in love with Happy Valley during a weekend visit in the fall.

WE WILL:
Win this fight. Together. We will be multipliers in doing so, not merely additions. We will counter uncertainty with action. If there’s anything we know about Penn Staters is that we support each other. Now, instead of 107,000+ white-clad full-throated fans cheering on the best football program in the country, we must be a community of millions cheering on today’s heroes in the hospitals around the country. Our goal will be modest, at first, but symbolic. If we can fill Beaver Stadium with 107,000 fans, we can raise $107,000 to support our heroes of today. We will radiate the positivity that Happy Valley instills in all of us.

I AM:
My name is Jay. I graduated in 2014 from Penn State - University Park. I am originally from Lewisburg, Pennsylvania and now live in Atlanta, Georgia.

I know the strength of the Penn State community. I chose Penn State because of the opportunity to play rugby. Through my participation in rugby I learned that there is no greater bond than the blue and white. It is a bond that goes beyond sidelines, classrooms, and borders. Its power transcends generations, genders, and races. I’d like to show the world what bond is capable of.

My three best friends during my time at Penn State and senior year college roommates, Danny, Matt, and Nate, were all in the nursing program. As many Penn Staters do after graduating, we have remained close since leaving our West College Avenue apartment. We have shared frequent reunions, holidays, and a few beers.

They are now all RNs living this crisis firsthand and I am worried about them. Danny is an emergency room nurse in Brooklyn. Matt is on a pediatric oncology floor in a Manhattan hospital. Nate works on an ICU floor in Austin. We communicate daily. None of them have the PPE that they need now nor in the coming weeks and months of this pandemic.

I am supporting this cause for them.

YOU ARE:
In the Penn State orbit or just someone wanting to help this cause. Everyone has a story, so please tell it! Please share your Penn State connection, for whom you are supporting this cause, or why you are donating in the comments below.

If you prefer to donate to an organization serving your or a loved one’s local community, please do so. I will be matching my donation to this fund with donations to organizations in Matt, Danny, and Nate’s communities. If you are unable to donate in these uncertain times, please consider donating blood, sewing masks, exploring virtual volunteer opportunities, or devoting time to any number of other efforts that will support those affected by this pandemic.
