Who We Are
Progressive Social Network (PSN) is a grassroots community advocacy group promoting a progressive agenda of equity, inclusion, and accountability in the greater Baton Rouge area. We encourage direct political action, policy initiatives, coalition building, civic engagement, and keeping our community informed on important local political issues.

How We Started
PSN began in early 2017 with a group of individuals that met in a Facebook group and then decided that they wanted to take their activism off of the computer and begin to find ways to make impactful change.  We began meeting regularly to educate ourselves on important local issues and begin to develop strategies for creating impactful change.

What We've Done

In the 9 months since PSN formed, we have expanded our reach in the Baton Rouge area, attracting thousands of local followers on our social media platforms and developed a contact list of over 350 Baton Rougeans. We continue to build partnerships with other organizations to increase our capacity for making an impact; Participating in community improvement events, direct political actions such as rallies and vigils, as well as community building and dialogue events. This past legislative session we joined coalitions to push state legislative policy, and we continue to promote civic engagement at the local level (city townhalls, metro council meetings, etc).  Additionally we have formed internal issue-focused committees that are currently researching strategies and potential policy initiatives to give special attention to any targeted needs.

Recent Structural Changes
As PSN has grown, we have been working to move from a top-down leadership model to a more democratic structure for the organization as a whole. We are in the process of building our board of directors, identifying candidates to lead operational teams, and working with committee chairs to relaunch their committees using a new functional flow model for efficiency and effectiveness. In August we were able to file articles of incorporation with the Secretary of State making PSN a legitimate organization.

Additionally, this month in combination with our inaugural fundraising drive, we have launched the official PSN website (website). This online presence will lend credibility to our organization while expanding our reach.

Plans for the Future
The ultimate goal of PSN is to solidify an undeniable Progressive voice in the Greater Baton Rouge area. We will do that by creating deeper connections and expanding into the community through social and community bridge building events, continuing to build strong partnerships with other community leaders and organizations, and working to craft policy that will promote change that reflects our progressive values.

How Your Donation Helps
In order for us to continue to grow and implement our vision, we need your help! Currently we rely 100% on donations to operate. Your generous donation today will help in two ways.

First, we need to raise the funds necessary to file for a 501c3 tax exempt status with the IRS. We contracted with a local women owned business, to file our articles of incorporation and we would like to continue working with them to obtain our tax exempt status. Funds collected from this campaign will be allocated for IRS fees and the costs associated with filing.

In addition to the costs associated with obtaining tax exempt status for our organization, we are also raising funds to be allocated towards initial startup and operational expenses as well is to build an initial nest egg to aid us in providing more PSN programming and outreach.
