Volunteering in Peru

Hello to my friends and family!
As I believe most of you know, I am in the midst of a wonderful time in my life and have an opportunity to help others globally, but I am asking for your help.

I have found myself in a break from my career and rather than jump back into the corporate grind, I have decided to take some time to travel to Peru to volunteer with pre-school aged children and children with special needs.  I am working with an organization called Projects Abroad and in August I will be heading to a town called Urubamba, which is situated in the Sacred Valley, to work with kids for three months.

While working in the pre-school I will care for children between 1 and 4 years old.  I will assist the supervisors with general hygiene and with the caring for and feeding of the children. I will also develop small projects with the children doing activities such as art, basic learning lessons and sports.  I think I will be part time teacher and part time Mommy.

The second portion will be a placement at a special-needs school in Calca, where they have been working since 2005. People with learning disabilities are often still regarded as one homogenous group in Peru, but the provision of support for many learning disabilities has changed dramatically in recent years. In line with this they are helping to implement a system focused on the individual, including art, drama and music therapies, and supporting life-long learning.

Your support will help with the total cost of the trip.  As I've been saying "“ volunteering is a misnomer; it's actually pretty expensive!  The money I raise will go towards the flight, accommodation while I am there, food, travel insurance, medical insurance, support from Projects Abroad before and during my trip, and to the local program.

I understand that extra funds are hard to come by these days so please know that anything is appreciated, and if you can't give financially, it is not a problem at all, I absolutely understand.

Thank you in advance for your help and support, both financially and emotionally.  The outpouring of positive energy and support I have received so far is amazing.  I am thankful to have such great people around me that encourage me in adventures that take me to far away places.

Muchas Gracias!

**Please Note** Projects Abroad is not registered as a non-profit, but as a business and therefore all donations made to me WILL NOT be tax deductible.  The money donated will be considered a 'personal gift'.  Please check with a tax professional for further information on any potential benefits.
