In the global north, we have sophisticated systems in place to ensure that surgeons are trained and accredited in their specialty. Other parents are often struggle with this basic assurance. 

According to WHO data, there are 2 specialist surgeons for every 100,000 people in some parts of Sub-Saharan Africa. So identifying a specialist surgeon in low- resource environments is difficult. 

 

As paediatric surgeons, we believe that every child has equal dignity. We strive for equal access to healthcare. As individual surgeons, we cannot solve global health inequalities. However, we recognise that our Sub-Saharan colleagues face many challenges and we would love to lend a hand. Access to knowledge need not be one of these challenges.

 

Our mission at PSIONjournal is to share our time, data, knowledge and expertise with the with our Sub-Saharan surgeon colleagues. On our website, www.psionjournal.org,  we are building a collaborative, peer to peer network that will address knowledge , skill and equipment gaps. Surgeons can access curated global health content in paediatric surgery. We enable surgeons to partner-up to discuss challenging cases.

- Supported collaboration to bring a global north / south surgeons together (£120 per teleconference)
- Videography  (£600 recording and editing a single surgery)
- Data storage, hosting etc  ( £560 per year )
- Database to verify and maintain surgeon credentials ( £3000)
