Justice for Dante

Donation protected
Help us fight for justice for a man that the justice system failed. A man  who put his life on the line for this country and our freedom multiple times. A decorated combat veteran, Police officer, Father, Son, Fiancee, and Friend.   On Monday March, 18th, 2019. Officer Dante Gordon was wrongfully convicted of 4th degree assault with injury as a result of an unfair trial and now faces 18 months in prison. During the same trial he was acquitted of 3 other offenses, carrying a weapon for an unlawful purpose, making terroristic threats and a lesser aggravated assault charge for pointing a gun at or in the direction of another.  The incident occurred outside the 7-Eleven at the intersection of Main and Market streets around 1:30 a.m. Feb. 25,2016. At the time Dante was trying to exit the store when Travis Mann (a serial offender, whose rap sheet stretches more than a decade and includes arrests for robbery and drug possession, among other offenses, and is currently incarcerated) threatened to stab him and everyone else around him. Dante took a police action and attempted to gain control of the scene. Unfortunately, while trying to de-cock and re-holster his off-duty weapon (a Smith and Wesson Revolver) a round went off into the ground. As  Dante was leaving the scene a man followed him to his car and began yelling and cursing at him. That man was later identified as John Smith. And several weeks later he stated that he suffered an injury to his leg and was given first aid with an alcohol pad by a store employee. He never went to a hospital or saw a doctor for any alleged injuries.  During the trial a lot evidence that would have shone light onto the situation was denied and blocked by the judge ( a former prosecutor for Bergen County) and the Passaic County prosecutor's office. Other evidence that had nothing to do with the case was allowed in. All of the lawyer's objections were over ruled and the jury was misled by the judge.  Furthermore, his PBA president testified against him to cover his own back. This GoFundMe is being opened to help right  a wrong. To appeal this case and bring an innocent man back home to his 2 year old daughter, his fiancee and his family and friends.   These funds would cover an estimate for the appeal process as well as other lawyer fees from the trial itself.  Thank you for taking time to read this and hopefully donate, and I hope you have a wonderful day.
