PS 172 PTA Covid-19 Emergency Fund

To our PS172 and Sunset Park community and beyond,
PS 172 is a local elementary school that serves over 600 students from Pre-k through fifth grade in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. We are a Title 1 school, with many immigrant families, which means that although being a hardworking community, a significant amount of our families are low income. However, our students are high academic achievers. PS 172 students rank 9th in math and 7th in English among the city’s top 10 schools.
Some of our families have been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic. We were informed that many of our hardworking families have experienced job loss due to the pandemic, as well as some who have even suffered from the virus. The PTA has used emergency funds thus far for a few families in need, but due to not being able to host our normal school fundraisers to raise money, we will not be able to continue providing support to more families in need. After consulting with our school administration, the PTA has decided to start a fundraiser for families in need. With these funds, we will be able to help support families by purchasing grocery store gift cards for the families in need during this time.
As a PTA, our number one goal is to be able to support our families in the struggles they are facing. The main goal right now is to ensure that none of our families are facing food insecurities during this time. But we can't do it without YOUR help! We are all in this together so lets show our school community how we ALL stick together.
On behalf of the PTA board at PS172, we are asking those who are able to, to please make a tax deductible donation on this GOFUNDME account, of any amount, to help support our families during this crisis. PS 172 es una escuela Primaria local de Sunset Park la cual ofrece servicios a más de 600 estudiantes, desde el grado Pre-K hasta el Quinto grado. Nuestra escuela ha sido otorgado el título de Title 1 que significa que aunque somos de una comunidad trabajadora, una gran cantidad de nuestras familias son de bajos recursos. Sin embargo, nuestros alumnos desempeñan logros académicos altos. Los estudiantes de PS 172 han obtenido un rango de noveno en matemáticas y séptimo en Inglés de entre la 10 escuelas mejor clasificadas de la ciudad de Nueva York. Algunas de nuestras familias han sufrido bastante a causa de la pandemia del Covid-19. Nos han informado de que muchas de nuestras familias trabajadoras están pasando por pérdidas de empleo a causa de esta pandemia, como también algunas familias han sufrido de la severidad de este virus. El PTA, La Junta de Padres y Maestros, ha usado fondos de emergencia para algunas familias en necesidad. Pero lamentablemente, por el impedimento de destacar las recaudaciones de fondos normales, vamos perder la habilidad de seguir dando apoyo a más familias en necesidad. Después de una consulta a la administración de nuestra escuela, el PTA ha tomado la decisión de re-empezar recaudación de fondos para apoyo a la familias en necesidad. Con estos fondos podremos ayudar y dar apoyo a estas familias mediante la compra de tarjetas de compras. Como PTA, nuestra meta principal es de poder darle apoyo a nuestras familias en tiempos difíciles. Nuestra meta principal en estos momentos es de asegurar de que ninguna familia pase por inseguridad de comida. Pero no podremos lógralo SIN SU ayuda! Estamos en esto juntos, entonces demostrémoslos a nuestra comunidad como nos apoyamos.
