Hi! We're Leilani and David Prusky. Many of you may know our story but some of you may not. Like most couples, we set goals, we dream about our future together, and we assumed that having biological children wouldn’t be too difficult. After over 3 years of trying, it became clear to us that having a biological child was not going to be easy. We were eventually referred to a fertility specialist where multiple tests were performed to determine a cause for our infertility. To this day, we are still uncertain as to exactly why we are not able to conceive naturally. We went through multiple cycles of Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), all without success. We later decided to try In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and received our greatest gift, our son Bryson. Bryson reminds us every day just how amazing life is and that nothing should be taken for granted. Hoping to add another child to our family, we did another round of IVF and sadly, shortly into the pregnancy, we suffered a miscarriage. Our third round of IVF did not result in a pregnancy.
We tell you all of this, not with the expectation that people will feel bad for us, but only to share our journey of deciding to expand our family through adoption. We are stronger because of what we’ve been through and hope that others who have similar stories feel less alone. Our struggle and loss came without explanation which has been the hardest for us, but helped in our exploration of other ways to expand our family.
We tossed around the idea of attempting IVF a 4th time, but can distinctly remember knowing deep down inside that that wasn’t the path we were meant to travel. The toll the process took on Leilani’s body and the emotional toll it took on our entire family was hard for us to picture going through again. That’s when we began talking about and researching adoption. It is hard to describe just how right it felt when we began our adoption journey.
We have talked about it so much that it has become part of us and a part of our life’s plan. We have spent time researching our options, connecting with adoptive families, and have completed our home study. We will be adopting a little boy or girl from South Korea!
Having a child, as many of you know, is expensive. IVF is expensive, and adoption is even more expensive. The fees associated with adoption can at times, seem never-ending. Next in our adoption journey is to receive a referral from South Korea. Upon our acceptance of that referral we will need to provide the South Korean government and the local adoption agency the funds to legally finalize the adoption, and bring our child home. In addition, as part of the process we are required to travel to South Korea on two separate occasions.
With the help of the adoption agency, we have started this gift registry to help with the expenses and are asking you to consider making a gift to help bring our family together. Funds received will be used for documentation processing and court fees in South Korea, travel expenses for both of our trips (airfare, hotel, transportation, and food), as well as, post placement requirements. We very much appreciate each and every one of you! Thank you for supporting our family. It is with the emotional and financial support of our family and friends that truly makes this adoption journey a success.
