On September 20, 2017, Puerto Rico suffered a direct hit from Hurricane Maria. The damage that occurred is truly devastating and our hearts are broken.
100% of the island is without power. 90% of people are without water. Cell phone towers have been destroyed. Some parts of the island are completely flooded and debris is scattered all over. Homes and businesses are missing roofs, windows and doors.
My name is Roberto Mena. I was born and raised in Rio Grande, PR. Puerto Rico is my home, and home to 3.5 million people. The people, the culture and the land is what makes Puerto Rico so special. I will be traveling to PR from Connecticut to help my family, once the airport opens back up and it is safe for me to travel.
We have set up this relief fund to help my family and friends in need. If you’ve visited Puerto Rico and met the people, they need your help NOW. They need basic things like food, water, and supplies.
Once I have booked my flight, I will use the funds to purchase first aid supplies, diapers, formula, non-perishable food, flashlights, batteries, cleaning supplies, tarps, personal hygiene items, small solar chargers for cell phones, sheets and blankets and pet food. I will then take as much as I can with me in my suitcases and ship the remainder to arrive while I am there. I will post photos of my purchases and when I return I will share photos with you all.
