THE PROVOST FARM INITIATIVE: THE JOURNEY OF HOW ONE FARM FAMILY PLANS TO CULTIVATE EQUITY IN THEIR COMMUNITY
Meet the Provost
The Provost family — some of the very last Black farmers in the United States — have raised sugarcane for over four generations!
June and Angie Provost founded the Provost Farm Initiative in 2018 with the purpose of addressing the deep-rooted systemic discrimination prevalent in the agriculture and foodway sectors.
Understanding the pressing need to protect their farm and support other BIPOC producers in their area, the Provosts are dedicated to rectifying the consequences of historical inequalities. Their initiative strives to establish a solid foundation of infrastructure that can pave the way for improved opportunities, policies, and programs for underserved communities.
Recognizing agriculture as the cornerstone of society, June and Angie firmly believe that without equitable and fair representation, society as a whole is adversely affected.
Like many Black farmers, June and Angie Provost still require your assistance! As we await substantial equitable reforms and compensation for the historical injustices committed by the USDA, both the Provosts and many others, continue to rely on public support.
Your generous donations will be utilized to support the operations of their family farm and the development of community-centered programs aimed at advancing justice for Black farmers.
