My best friend gave birth to a baby girl, my goddaughter Jade Sky, 2 months ago. Last Friday, 5/16/25, my best friend was arrested in Oregon and Jade was taken into CPS. I received a phone call from a social worker telling me that if I didn't come get her, she would be placed in foster care until she could be adopted out. So without hesitation, I drove the 10 hours from California to Oregon and picked her up. Both of Jade's parents are currently incarcerated, which makes me her legal guardian until one of them is released.
When the social worker gave Jade to me, she had only the clothes that she was wearing, a car seat with no base, a Ziploc bag of diapers, a half-drank bottle, and a small giraffe stuffed toy. I am currently not working, and the $572 every 2 weeks I receive on unemployment barely covers my basic needs. Getting a job and securing daycare and all that will come with time, but in the meantime, to get her through, I'm asking for any kind of help. I have never had kids of my own, and due to the circumstances, was unable to prepare properly for her arrival. I know everything is so expensive right now, and money is tight for everyone since the pandemic. Below is a link to an Amazon baby registry if you would feel more comfortable buying Jade a present. Anything helps. We love you and thank you for your support!
