Health Equity Fund

This program has been very successful and nearly all of the funds raised last summer have gone to good use. I am now reaching out for more funds to keep this program going and make it sustainable. Thank you!

My name is Dr. Kate Iberg. I have a private practice in New Orleans providing acupuncture and herbal medicine. As a white woman practicing Chinese Medicine in a predominantly Black neighborhood, I believe it is important that I work to unlearn racism and provide a safe environment for all people to receive care.

I am raising money to sustain a fund that was started in 2020 to offer discounted or free treatment for Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC). There is a long and brutal history of the mistreatment of Black people by our medical system. Major health disparities exist in the US. We saw it with COVID, and we will see it increase with the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Systemic racism leads to inequities in healthcare accessibility, affordability, and even outcomes.

How it works: any person who is not white that is interested in my services but not able to pay the full rate can tell me what they can afford, and the remaining amount is taken from this fund. There is no verification of income or anything else. It is up to the person receiving care to decide what they can or can not pay. This amount may change from day to day.

This fund is also important so that I can continue to pay myself what I believe I am worth. This allows me not to have to overwork to compensate for the discounts so that I can provide the best care possible. Not only do I strive to make healthcare accessible, safe, and affordable, I also strive to provide compassionate and quality care.
