Protest Traffic Violations Fund

Providence community activists and organizers are mobilizing to start a GoFundMe to help support folks who have received tickets and citations from the city of Providence during BLM protests. We understand that mobilizing in the streets can cause the city government to penalize those who march, protest, and serve as line of defense drivers when we take to the streets. Some folks have tickets amounting up to thousands of dollars for simply protecting their fellow protestors. Some of us have tried to fight our tickets in court but have faced barriers and corruption in every direction. Some of us have insurance policies that will rise substantially because of actions we took with the intention of defending our community and friends exercising their first amendment right to protest.

Due to the fact that Covid-19 has economically affected everyone, we understand that we have to be there for each other as comrades in this struggle to fight the racist system and government that fails to represent our desires for change.

We hope to create this fund as a line of support in order to look out for one another, and have resources for those who have been ticketed. Ideally we hope we won’t need to, but we also aim to keep this fund available for use for those impacted throughout further direct actions.
