PROTECTORES DE LA TIERRA

Our project begins in 2021 with Mesa Justa Nuquí, an initiative supported by Balistikal and Chili’s on Wheels to provide free meals and groceries to those most affected by the food shortages and skyrocketing prices during the Colombian National strike and global pandemic. Nuquí, Chocó is located in the Gulf of Tribugá, a predominately Afro-descendent Black and Indigenous Embera region on the pacific coast of today’s Colombia.

In 2021, we created a community garden that shares the wisdom of Elders of the community on ancestral farming practices of food and medicinal plants of the region.

In 2022, we expanded to a multi-acre farm planting hundreds of sugar cane, pineapple, and fruit trees, among other medicinal plants. We prepare farming rice and corn, practices that have been getting lost due to a lack of support for the farmer. We are changing this history for our liberated futures.

Looking forward, we build the infrastructure to keep farming, receiving long-stay visits for volunteers and workers on these lands in this beautiful forest. We hope to welcome you here soon!

Nuestro proyecto comienza en 2021 con Mesa Justa Nuquí, una iniciativa apoyada por Balistikal y Chili’s on Wheels para brindar comidas y mercados gratis a los más afectados por la escasez de alimentos de plantas y los precios disparados durante el paro nacional colombiano y la pandemia mundial. Nuquí, Chocó está ubicado en el Golfo de Tribugá, una región predominantemente afrodescendiente negra e indígena Embera en la costa pacífica de la actual Colombia.

En 2021, creamos una huerta comunitaria que comparte la sabiduría de maestras y maestros de la comunidad sobre las prácticas ancestrales de cultivo de alimentos y plantas medicinales de la región.

En 2022, nos expandimos a una finca de varias hectáreas sembrando cientos de caña de azúcar, piña y árboles frutales, juntos a otras plantas medicinales. Nos preparamos para la siembra de arroz y maíz, prácticas que se han ido perdiendo por falta de apoyo al agricultor. Estamos cambiando esta historia por nuestros futuros liberados.

Mirando al futuro, construimos la infraestructura para seguir sembrando, recibiendo visitas de larga estancia de voluntarios y trabajadores en estas tierras de esta hermosa selva. ¡Esperamos darle la bienvenida aquí pronto!
