For Love of Island Water contest

Donation protected
Overview: Ask any Prince Edward Islander who has lived away for any length of time what they missed the most during their travels and the answer is always the same -  the water.  Every meandering creek, every pond, every sandy beach and all the creatures they inhabit are held near and dear to an islander's heart.  The PEI Water Guardians is a group of concerned islanders who want to raise awareness in a positive way about how vitally important our island waterways are to us. With a water act in the making, we know the time is now to send a clear message to our  government that we need to think long term, sustainable when we plan our water protection policies. For many reasons, our water has been at risk for decades.  Our government is promising to listen to the wishes of islanders when formulating policy, so the intention of this campaign will be to act as a beacon on behalf of our water.  Our overall goal is to let our leaders know how precious our water is to us and that we, as its Guardians, are paying attention.

Contest:
With this in mind, this campaign, for the love of island water songwriters' contest,  will use the power of music to stir emotion and hopefully motivate islanders to engage in the process of forming a water act that will protect our water for future generations.  We ask that the songs bring attention to some of the threats our waterways are facing that need to be addressed in our water act.  The contest will feature two categories - one for professional musicians/writers and another for students and up and coming artists to write and submit music and lyrics for a song about our water. This campaign will have two main beneficiaries- our precious PEI water and our talented musical community.  Our musicians will benefit by the exposure as songs are shared via social media throughout the month of November and, for the winning songwriters, with a cash prize :)

How it works:100% of the money donated will fund the prizes for winning submissions.  With each donation made, musicians will be able to watch the prize pot grow, which should entice lots of interest.  Judges will narrow the songs down to top 5 in each category and winners will be chosen at a Celebration of Water and Music in Charlottetown. Date and locationTBA.

Why should you donate? You'll be taking part in a fun and exciting campaign that supports our water and musicians. If you are concerned about the state of island water for any reason, this donation will help bring your concerns to light. It will also serve to spread awareness, not just to government, but to islanders who may not be paying attention to the precarious state of our water.

How to make a donation:
Donations can be made anonymously or otherwise here on this page.  In return, besides helping raise awareness about our endangered water, you will also be invited to a showing of the top five contestants in each category, where judges will be deciding upon winners.

If you are concerned about our precious water and want to make a change in a positive way, this is your chance. Let's stand up for our water so that future generations will experience the wonder and awe that we have grown up with.  Be a part of the solution.  Your grandchildren will thank you.

As of October 24, these three submissions have been made, making it clear just how much we love our water!
