The Batoka Gorge on the Zambezi River is a part of the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia (Southern Africa). The gorge lies right at the bottom of Victoria Falls which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Batoka Gorge Hydroelectriques Power Station is a dam project, approved by both governments of Zambia and Zimbabwe, that would flood the Batoka Gorge, destroying a whole unique ecosystem and the thriving tourism industry based on the gorge and the Victoria Falls. The preparations of the hydroelectric project are well advanced, although opposition to the dam could still make a difference.
My brother and I are two whitewater kayakers paddling around the world. Like many other paddlers we are dreaming of paddling on the Zambezi river.
Our project consists on traveling to the Batoka Gorge to recollect, in a short movie, points of views on the future dam from locals whose lives will be affected by the said construction. The focus of the film will be to enforce the importance of the mighty Zambezi River in our world and to underline the crime that it would represent to destroy this unique part of it.
We will be conducting interviews with employees and owners of local tourism companies like rafting, safari and hotel, whitewater paddlers and local families.
The movie will be sent to different outdoor film festivals and contest, outdoor and paddling magazines and as many platforms we can reach to get the best visibility possible. Every donators of a 100$ or more will see his/her name appears as contributor on the screen.

La gorge de Batoka sur le fleuve Zambèze se situe à la frontière entre le Zimbabwe et la Zambie (sud de l'Afrique). Le canyon se trouve juste en aval des chutes Victoria, une des 7 merveilles du monde, un patrimoine mondial de l'Unesco. Le Batoka Gorge Hydroelectric Power Station est un projet de barrage, approuvé par les gouvernements du Zimbabwe et de la Zambie, qui prévoient inonder la gorge de Batoka, détruisant un écosystème unique ainsi que l'importante industrie touristique qui s'y rattache. Malgré que les préparatifs du barrage soient bien avancés, une forte opposition au projet pourrait faire la différence.
Mon frère et moi sommes deux kayakistes voyageant autour du monde pour vivre notre passion sur les rivières. Comme plusieurs autres pagayeurs, nous rêvons de descendre les flots déchaînés de la Zambezi.
Notre projet consiste à se rendre jusqu'aux abords du fleuve Zambèze afin d'y tourner un film exposant, à l'aide d'entrevues, les impacts sur la vie des locaux ainsi que les enjeux liés à la construction d'un barrage tel que celui planifié dans la gorge de Batoka. Le film soulignera la gravité des répercussions liée aux barrages hydroélectriques et l'importance du fleuve Zambèze dans notre monde.
Le film sera diffusé dans différents festivals de films, magazines de plein air et d'eau vive. Nous allons viser un maximum de plateformes afin d'avoir la plus grande visibilité possible. Chaque donateur de 100$ et plus verra son nom apparaître comme contributeur à l'écran.
