Protect our School and Neighborhood - City Park

Donation protected

Attention City Park residents!

Denver has failed to uphold the will of the people and the consequences are almost more than this city can bare. It is truly heartbreaking to see the current situation at Morey. The Mayor and our City Council-members have done little to protect its people and the problem gets worse everyday.  State troopers are sweeping Civic today and these campers are going to spread out into nearby neighborhoods.

It has now spread to the Denver Center for 21st Century Learning (DC-21). This is a public school at 17th/Williams that serves grades 6-12. Unfortunately, due to the inability of the Denver government to take preventative measures, an encampment is now building on the Southside of the school. IT MAKES ME LIVID THAT THESE INDIVIDUALS ARE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF OUR SCHOOLS.

I noticed the encampment last Saturday morning and immediately went to Home Depot to buy temporary fencing. I spent ~$350 on tools and supplies and was only able to put up a temporary fence on the Northside (~500' perimeter). Fencing is expensive!!

Hence the need for this gofundme. The total temporary fence perimeter needed to protect the grass strips around the school is ~3,142'. This will cover the grass strips around the school.  There are currently three tents up on the southside and we will not be doing a vigilante sweep. The goal here is to stop the spread, so we will fence up every piece of ground they are not using. I will use a group of volunteers/friends to construct the fence, so no labor cost. Here is a breakdown of the materials needed:

Here is a link to the breakdown of the $2,100.00:

I have consulted with school staff and they are generally supportive of a temporary fence. Whatever money we raise, I will use for fencing. If for some reason we raise more than $2100, I will donate the surplus to installing more temp fencing around the city.

Lastly, I recommend that every neighborhood in Denver get together and take preventative measures such as this. Do not wait on these innocuously inept and futile people in public office to help you. It is a sad state of affairs and the best we can do is help ourselves.

Best,

Kevin
