We need your financial commitment to push back against a Costco invading our neighborhood, and to support our Poway Unified School District when the PUSD board ultimately chooses to do the right thing for our children! (FYI you can adjust the "TIP GO FUND ME" option to zero when donating).
We are a group of concerned communities, families, and friends that OPPOSE the district’s plans to lease the land (known as “Black Mountain Ranch site”) on the corner of Carmel Valley Road and Camino Del Sur for up to 60 years to Costco. We are urging the Poway Unified School District (PUSD) board of directors to STOP this project now and do the right thing for our children and community!
We oppose this plan for the following reasons:
1) PUSD’s lack of transparency
2) PUSD did not involve the community
3) Leasing to Costco eliminates the option to build a school on the site
4) Negative Impact to the various neighborhoods and environment
Unfortunately, we will be up against well-funded organizations, that are accustomed to community opposition to its' projects, and that has a lot of experience partnering with school board members across the county to take over land formerly set aside for schools. To fight back we will need to hire lawyers and experts to challenge this project at every step.
We have established a Non-Profit entity called Protect Our Community Now (POCN) and are raising the initial funds necessary to begin this fight. Our goal is to raise at least $150,000 from the more than 1500 neighbors and supporters that have expressed an interest in fighting this invasion of our neighborhood. We understand these are difficult times for many so we ask you to give only what you can. We need a minimum of $100 per family to reach our goal. For those families with the resources to do so we ask that you give more than the average. For those currently facing tougher circumstances amid the COVID-19 pandemic, any help is appreciated.
100% of the funds raised will go directly to POCN. The funds you contribute will be used to help with legal counsel, PR, and professional experts we need to help us fight for our cause. As well as to raise awareness of this issue in the community, and to fund any related expenses necessary to advance this cause.
All use of funds will be reported publicly to ensure transparency. It is our hope that the PUSD will quickly recognize that they have made the wrong choice for our community and hopefully partner with us going forward for the benefit of our local schools and community.
