Fighting for My Daughter: A Father’s Commitment

Hello, my name is Isaiah Inderrieden, and I am reaching out for support to preserve the most important relationship in my life—the one I share with my daughter, M. She is my heart, my greatest joy, and my deepest responsibility. Since the day she was born, I have devoted myself to being the father she deserves—one who is present, loving, and steadfast in ensuring her well-being.

In 2021, I made the difficult decision to move from Denver to Los Angeles for a new job—a decision I made with M’s mother’s full support. We agreed to work together to ensure a stable co-parenting arrangement. However, a year later, her mother retained an attorney and proposed a parenting plan that significantly limited my time with M. Since then, I have been seeking a fair and balanced parenting plan that upholds M’s right to have both of her parents actively involved in her life.

Unfortunately, my ability to maintain meaningful parenting time has been hindered by ongoing legal challenges. As of today, I have not seen my daughter in 256 days. That means 256 days of missed birthdays, school milestones, and the everyday moments that form the foundation of a strong father-daughter bond.

Why This Matters

Family courts emphasize the best interests of the child, and I believe that includes ensuring that both parents remain a meaningful part of a child’s life. For the past year and a half, I have represented myself pro se, filing motions, attending hearings, and advocating for my rights as a father. However, two weeks ago, I was informed that I would no longer be permitted to represent myself.

This ruling presents a significant legal challenge, as I must now retain legal counsel to continue advocating for my parenting rights. While I remain fully committed to following the court’s guidance, I strongly believe that every parent should have the ability to advocate for their role in their child’s life. My goal remains the same: to ensure that M has equitable access to both of her parents and a stable, loving environment that prioritizes her well-being.
