Protect Liverpool Bay (PLB) is a group of citizens & business owners concerned about the economic prosperity, social well-being and environmental sustainability of our coastal resources.
On March 6, 2019, Cooke Aquaculture submitted an application to Nova Scotia Fisheries & Aquaculture (NSFA) requesting approval for the expansion of the current salmon farm in Liverpool Bay (Site #1205) from 14 cages to 20 cages and the addition of two new sites of the same size. PLB is calling on the Nova Scotia Government to immediately withdraw the current “Application for Exploration/Expansion” of Cooke Aquaculture Inc. in Liverpool Bay. We believe that marine-based fin-fish facilities cannot be sustainably operated in a marine environment and therefore demand a permanent moratorium on this kind of aquaculture and insist that all future finfish aquaculture sites be only closed containment, land-based facilities.
However, in preparation for our likely participation in a NSFA Panel Review Process later this spring/summer, PBL has launched this A Go-Fund-Me campaign in an effort to raise funds to allow for expert (biological, legal, economic benefits) advice, signage, mapping and printing costs.
Your donation may not only support the reduction or elimination in Liverpool Bay, but assist in preventing future open-pen fin-fish aquaculture site throughout Nova Scotia.
Let's send a strong message, open pen fish farms are not welcome here or anywhere.
