Protect Deerfield Beach Neighborhood Safety

The Issue

The city of Deerfield Beach commission has voted to approve a zoning change to allow 237 unit 4 and 5 story building complex on Federal Highway between Northeast 2 Street [Eller Drive] and Northeast 4 Street which currently consists of the two-story Eller Building, parking lot and four vacant parcels. This approval makes this project THE MOST DENSE RESIDENTIAL ZONING IN THE CITY.

Many residents in the area are opposed to this building project based on the disregard for safety that this size will cause. A much smaller building is compatible for the area. For that reason we are requesting the neighborhood to get involved.

A group of neighbors is currently working with an individual who is represented by Robert Sweetapple, who has reason to believe that the City did not consider the legal requirements to approve this rezoning.

Mayor Ganz and Commissioner Preston voted against rezoning. Commissioners Hudak, Parness, & Drosky approved the AXIS Project.

Broward County COVID-19 lockdowns began March 19, 2020 when the county issued a stay-at-home order shortly after Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency in Florida on March 13, 2020. Travel outside the home was prohibited.

Nobody attended because nobody knew about it. We weren't notified, and no one saw a single sign.

Even if people had known about it, attendance by the public was prohibited, not just by the state, but also by the county.

At some point in mid 2021, a developer stapled this paper to an invitation to help plan their new apartment building and mailed it to residents.

That is how everyone learned about the zoning change.
