: PHASE 2: RAISE MONEY TO PROCEED WITH LEGAL CASE TO PROTECT OUR COMMUNITY
BIG THANKS for your financial support! Together we have raised $5500. With these funds, STHIP has successfully secured our top attorney, Mitch Tsai. He will begin legal action to protect nearby neighborhoods and THOUSANDS of apartment residents , including HUNDREDS of Pasadena CHILDREN from site toxic waste and freeway-diesel toxins. Although our attorney has taken this case on contingency, we still need an additional $20,000 to cover court costs such as filing fees, depositions, xeroxing, court recorders, couriers, etc.
Pasadena City Council approved a project to build 550 apartments on an unremediated former US Navy toxic waste site at 3200 E. Foothill Blvd next to Kaiser in East Pasadena. The complex is designed to house families, putting the health of hundreds of children at risk. For over 30 years, the site was previously used for testing and manufacturing military weapons. The developers of the project, Trammell Crow, were only required to do only partial testing and partial cleanup. After this partial cleanup, site cancer risks will still be 340 times above allowed levels. All 20 site studies used by the developer are incomplete, and most of them fail to pass US EPA validation and anti-fraud tests.
THE LAWSUIT DEMANDS
● FULL site testing and cleanup BEFORE any site development;
● The developer, Trammell Crow, must change building design/construction to include better pollution control---and must bear the full cost for 24/7 HVAC filtration systems and carbon air-filtration systems that will better protect residents from nearby freeway air pollution, including diesel particles and volatile organic compounds.
Thank you for joining us in supporting safe and responsible housing in Pasadena.
