The United States Air Force is poised to base the F-35 stealth-bomber at our small municipal airport in the midst of the most densely populated residential areas in the state. The Air Force made this decision in the face of intense public opposition. The F-35 will bring intense environmental damage to the region.
On Town Meeting Day, March 6, 2018, the citizens of Burlington will have a chance to vote on Article 6 to request cancellation of F-35 basing at Burlington Airport. Save Our Skies Vermont is running a vigorous campaign for a YES vote and is in need of funds for ads, lawn signs, brochures and mailers.
We ask you to give what you can to this David and Goliath battle to stop the F-35 basing in our city. We have a very short time frame to act. Your donations are tax deductable!
About the F-35:
* Noise: The Burlington Board of Health found that noise at the level of the F-35 causes hearing loss, stress, sleep disturbance, heart attacks, hypertension and stroke, and delayed reading and verbal comprehension in children.
* Crash Toxicity: The Air Force anticipates a high crash rate for the F-35 and that 12,000 pounds of carbon composite materials in its fuselage and stealth coating will burn in a crash releasing toxic chemicals, particulates and fibers making the F-35 one of the most dangerous air crafts in the United States Airforce to base in a densely populated city.
* 3,000 homes in the F35 intense noise zone will become uninhabitable, most severely impacting minority and low income populations.
* Cost to taxpayers: The overall cost of the F-35 Program is $1.4 Trillion. Just ONE pilot's helmet costs $400,000.
Burlington Voters: Please vote YES on Article 6 to Save Our Skies from the F-35s!
