Prosthetic for Link!

Linken is my beautiful 5 month old Golden Doodle puppy. A few days after he was born, his paw was stepped on. It became infected and fell off. When I received Link, he did not have much strength and barely walked. I have been working with him on building his muscles so he can function more normally. I have been so impressed with his progress! He loves to run, walk, and play. We are continuing to work on jumping and things like going up and down stairs. 

For the most part, Link is a happy boy. Unfortunately however, his limb continues to scrape open and get infected. Because most of his leg exists and the weight is there, he twists his body and wobbles to use his limb as a leg instead of holding it up. This can cause an array of issues like getting infected, injuring existing joints, causing back and hip damage and pain in general. We use a booty on his limb when we go for walks, however we still haven't found an option that fits him comfortably or stays on. The ones that do, risk cutting off his circulation. 

As of now, Linken is a qualified candidate for a prosthetic. If Link's leg can remain healthy until he is about 12 months old we can move forward with the process of getting him set up with a prosthetic. (If he does not stay healthy until then, Link will need his entire leg amputated). Regardless of the outcome, Link's expenses will cost over $2,000. 

I have always wanted a dog of my own. This summer was the perfect time for me because I was off work searching for a post graduation job, I had accumulated enough savings for a puppy, and I had a lot of time and energy to dedicate to raising him.

I knew when I heard Link's story I had to have him. I suffer from several spine conditions and have a disability myself. I connected with him instantly. Link reminds me that it's okay to be different and that we can overcome anything! He provides me and others so much happiness.
