Jason's Legacy: Cure Osteosarcoma

On July 15, 1983, my dad sat at my brother's hospital bedside.  Jason was war torn having battled his cancer, osteosarcoma, for two years.  He lost his left arm and shoulder to the cancer, he lost his childhood to the cancer, he lost his future to the cancer.  He never wanted another child to lose to this cancer.  Before he died that morning, Jason asked my dad to continue with his fight.  So, a promise was made.  Our dad promised him he would fight osteosarcoma for the rest of his life.  And he has.  Since 1984, my dad, our family, and friends have done fundraising to support children's cancer research at various institutions such as the University of Michigan, Duke University, and recently, DeVos Childrens' Hospital and the Van Andel Institute.  We are blessed to have a leading osteosarcoma researcher, Dr. Matt Steensma, right here in Grand Rapids.   It's incredible that this doctor has focused his research on the exact cancer that Jason battled, osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer.  Dr. Steensma is on the cusp of a breakthrough.  He and his team are making tremendous progress  with not only understanding this cancer, but also with what treatments will stop it.  But, they desperately need funding to continue.  Our fund, The Jason Houghtaling Memorial Fund, does not have enough money to help with the full amount they need.  So,  we need your help to continue Jason's battle because the war wages on in his honor.  We need soldiers, we need you.  We can't have a breakthrough or a cure without you.  Please help my dad keep his promise, please help us save the lives of the children fighting osteosarcoma today.  You have an opportunity to be a part of a potential breakthrough in cancer research by donating to support Dr. Steensma and his research team.
