Project Warhorse Veterans Fundraiser

Donation protected
Project Warhorse is a veteran-owned nonprofit organization on a mission to build and donate custom BMX bikes to military veterans struggling with mental health in an effort to provide them the same relief outlet, community, and comradery BMX gave me when I was released from military service.

My name is James, and I am the creator of Project Warhorse.

For those who don't know, over 22 military veterans take their own life per day every day due to mental health battles with isolation, anxiety, depression, PTSD, insomnia, TBI, etc. That's over 8,000 military veterans from the ages of 18 and up lost to suicide per year, every year, and this doesnt only apply to those who have been deployed to combat. Just as many nondeployed veterans battle with these mental health struggles as deployed veterans and are lost to suicide every day. That number also does not include many more who fall victim to drugs and alcohol as a means to cope or escape. A big factor in these numbers is due to lack of good support systems, understanding, supportive, and dependable family members or friends, and healthy escape outlets to help them through their hardest times. I'm trying to change that.

Project Warhorse's goal is to not only introduce people to the physically active, mentally stimulating, creatively expressive, and socially interactive, healthy escape outlet BMX can be for them, but to also bring a positive spotlight to BMX from society as a whole by bringing communities together, and getting everyone involved in something that will have a lasting positive impact in their lives and the lives of others.

Before tanks, military soldiers used big strong armored war horses to charge into battle to help them win wars, and every time I ride my bike, I feel like that's what my bike is for me. BMX balances the freeing feeling of a riding a motorcycle with the creative expression of art, and provides a healthy escape outlet for the rider that many riders have testified to.

Before bmx, I'd spend most of my days inside with blackout curtains drawn, ridden with paranoid anxiety and destroyed social skills, and I'd see maybe one or 2 people per day. I've struggled with PTSD, Severe Anxiety, Panick Attacks, Major Depression, Insomnia, TBI, and other issues that led to a constant battle with suicide. Today, I'm able to be out in public, carry conversations, stay in shape, and enjoy myself with a smile on my face thanks to a BMX bike. When I'm on my bike everything I struggle with disappears, and that's the gift I'd like to pay forward to others.

If you'd like to support Project Warhorse and make a difference in a positive way, please spread the word, share a screenshot of the page, help me find veterans that would be interested in trying BMX as an outlet, and if you already ride, film some clips for me to post, and send me a video explaining what BMX does and is for you so I can showcase what BMX can do and be for others. Bmx has saved my life in many ways. Help me pass that gift to someone else. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

All bikes are built from new and gently used parts, and will be gifted to the recipients by donation and free of charge. Thank you to anyone who helps support this project.

We will be doing monthly raffles on our instagram in efforts to reach our goal. The crowd funding received from this fundraiser will go towards helping me make Project Warhorse as successful as possible including funding the costly process of 501c3 certification, the purchase of needed parts to build bikes for future recipients, the creation of products to enable efficient self funding, a Work/Travel van for networking, acquiring parts, building the bikes, and traveling to the recipients wherever they are in the country to not just personally deliver the bikes, but to also teach the veterans how to ride, rebuild the comradery that they had in the military, and give them another family they can turn to in times of need. The funds will also provide the ability to travel and provide complimentary BMX Event Shows from myself and Am./Professional BMX riders on military bases for active and reserve soldiers, and local skate parks for the civilian/veteran population, etc.

Thank you for being part of the Warhorse Family! Let's keep the good karma flowing. Make a difference, it starts with you!
