In september 2025 wil een team van 4 Nederlanders de top van de Kilimanjaro, de hoogste berg van Afrika, bereiken binnen 24 uur. Dit willen zij doen voor het goede doel KNGF-geleidehonden en het Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP). 
 
Ons team bestaan uit een combinatie van militairen, adem coaches en een uitermate gepassioneerde fotograaf. Samen willen wij het Nederlandse record verbreken. Dit is een enorme uitdaging, die wij graag aan willen gaan. Wij gaan dit doen voor mensen met PTSS die enorm veel baat hebben bij een hulphond. Wij willen hiermee aandacht vragen voor de uitdaging waar zij, dag in, dag uit, mee geconfronteerd worden. 
 
Zo'n 130.000 mensen leven door PTSS dagelijks in angst. Vooral geüniformeerde beroepen kampen vaak met PTSS klachten. Militairen, politieagenten en brandweerlieden kunnen daarom onze steun enorm hard gebruiken. Het aantal mensen met PTSS is nog altijd aan het stijgen, en het aantal hulphonden stijgt niet mee. Het is dan ook niet voor niets dat mensen met een professionele hulphond het leven een 8.2 geven, zonder is dat maar een 4.7, blijkt uit onderzoek van de KNGF. Voor iedere €10.000 euro kunnen wij een hulphond steunen tot zijn of haar definitieve plaatsing. Wij richten er daarom ook op om minimaal 2 honden definitief te plaatsen, maar het liefst willen wij natuurlijk de honden van geboorte tot pensioen voorzien van de middelen die zij nodig hebben. Wij zullen jullie via onze social mediakanalen meenemen in het hele proces dat de toekomstige hulphonden gaan afleggen, van geboorte tot plaatsing. 
 
Uiteraard willen wij niet naar Tanzania komen en niets voor het land en inwoners betekenen. De Kilimanjaro wordt jaarlijks duizenden keren beklommen door de Porters, de Tanzaniaanse 'Sherpa's' die in het hoogseizoen meerdere keren per maand de berg beklimmen. De Porters worden niet altijd even goed betaald, krijgen vaak slecht te eten en hebben verouderde uitrusting. Daarom willen wij 20kg per reiziger aan kleding en uitrusting doneren aan KPAP (Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project). Dat is ook nog eens ontzettend duurzaam! 
 
Hoe gaan wij ervoor zorgen dat wij het nieuwe Nederlandse record gaan verbreken? Door hoog level ademwerk en verschillende ademhalingstechnieken te combineren met wetenschappelijk onderbouwde fysieke training ontwikkelen wij een trainingsschema dat ons binnen 24 uur op de top van de Kilimanjaro brengt. 
 
Project Uhuru kost geld. Wanneer er niets wordt gesponsord door ondernemingen die meerwaarde zien in het project, zal het project ongeveer €22.000 euro kosten. Uiteraard dragen wij daar zelf aan bij, maar totale openheid van zaken is belangrijk. Wij hopen dat jullie er begrip voor hebben dat een deel van de opbrengst zal gaan naar het financieren van het project.

In September 2025, a team of 4 Dutch individuals will aim to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, within 24 hours. This challenge is being undertaken to support two worthy causes: KNGF Guide Dogs and the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP). 
 
Our team consists of a mix of military personnel, breathwork coaches, and an exceptionally passionate photographer. Together, we aim to break the Dutch record. This is a monumental challenge that we are eager to take on. Our mission is dedicated to individuals with PTSD, who greatly benefit from the companionship and assistance of a guide dog. Through this effort, we hope to bring attention to the daily challenges they face. 
 
Approximately 130,000 people live in constant fear due to PTSD, with uniformed professions—such as military personnel, police officers, and firefighters—being particularly affected. These individuals desperately need our support. While the number of people with PTSD continues to rise, the availability of assistance dogs does not meet this growing demand. Research from KNGF shows that individuals with a professional assistance dog rate their quality of life at 8.2 out of 10, compared to just 4.7 without one. For every €10,000 raised, we can support the training and placement of one assistance dog. Our goal is to ensure the placement of at least two dogs, but ideally, we aim to fund these dogs from birth to retirement, ensuring they receive all the resources they need. Through our social media channels, we will document the journey of these future assistance dogs—from birth to placement—so you can follow the impact of your support. 
 
We also want to give back to the local community in Tanzania. Kilimanjaro is climbed thousands of times a year by porters, the Tanzanian "Sherpas" who often scale the mountain multiple times a month during the peak season. Unfortunately, porters are often underpaid, poorly fed, and equipped with outdated gear. To address this, we aim to donate 20 kg of clothing and gear per traveler to KPAP (Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project). Not only is this meaningful, but it’s also incredibly sustainable! 
 
How will we ensure we break the Dutch record? By combining high-level breathwork and advanced breathing techniques with scientifically supported physical training, we are developing a training program designed to get us to the summit of Kilimanjaro within 24 hours. 
 
Project Uhuru requires funding. If no sponsorship is provided by organizations that see value in our mission, the project will cost approximately €22,000. While we will contribute personally, transparency is vital. We hope you understand that a portion of the funds raised will go toward financing the project.
