Haiti Project Tuition, NDVolunteers

Tax deductible

 December 2021,

Thank you for your continued support for Sissy’s ongoing mission in Haiti. As you will see from her update below our efforts in Haiti are still providing jobs. support and hope.in what has been a very difficult year in Haiti. Your generosity has enabled education for the children of the employees and hope for the parents.

Our goal this year is to raise $10,000 for the scholarship program this will bring the total support to $35,000 over the last 3 years.

Sissy’s update is below

In regard to the scholarships, we gave scholarship money to workers who produce the bread and those who sell the bread, that is 90 people in late September. Kids were able to go to school because they had money to pay for school tuition, books, shoes new uniforms if needed and lunch. Usually, we give them $50 in September and $50 in January to help defray the cost for that which I just listed above. We usually provide this in relationship to their track records at work.

Since the president was assassinated in July there are more challenges than usual. The regular challenges have been amplified. For example, just like in our country Haiti is facing inflation. But because of the civil unrest we not only have inflation, but we have more gangs on the road blocking the delivery trucks. Therefore, the cost of our ingredients has increased greatly because the drivers have to go in the middle of the night and are taking big risks. We have to to pay them extra.

The gas and diesel shortage also compounds our business cost to distribute. I think you get the picture. Let me summarize assassination, earthquake, civil unrest, more danger on the roads, gas and diesel shortage, are all big challenges that we face on a daily basis.

Where is the Hope? I have watched our Bakery team’s courage getting through the earthquake and beginning work again at the bakery. I have seen their resilience just carrying on in spite of all the challenges to return to their job and to try and make it work for themselves and their community. Sure, they ran into a major problem with our fork mixer but Our Bakery leadership team kept their patience and found a Way to get it fixed. The Haitian Spirit of resilience always prevails… it’s our no problem, mantra. The dream prevails.

Yes, the challenges were there, but so was Persistence toward the Team’s plan for the water project. After 9 months, the new equipment for reverse osmosis has been installed and the initial training for producing quality water has taken place. In the next few weeks those who have been chosen to run the water plant will be practicing their new operations. And the sellers will be planning and testing their sales plan. So, this is an exciting moment for the team In the midst of coping with all the challenges.

A big source of hope for the Haitians is your partnership to keep the scholarship fund active. As the Haitian bakery team remains active in their efforts, they count on you to continue your magnificent generosity. Your support is like a beacon of hope, especially for sellers who only make about $1.00 a day. They count on this scholarship for their child as part of a match for their steady bread selling. Every January and September hope lights up their smile in expectation of their scholarship award! Thank you for considering donating again.

God bless and let’s continue to pray for one another. Happy Christmas!

Gratefully,
Sissy
