Jün Cyber … Developing the New Cyber Workforce through Integrity, Service and Ohana

Executive Summary

When the author of the bestselling book, Practical Cyber Intelligence and cybersecurity expert, Mr. Wilson Bautista, Jr exited the military, he experienced a difficult transition into civilian life. He also recognized the strong demand for cybersecurity talent and alignment to Military values such as the passion to serve the greater good. These factors fueled his passion to help others like military vets, their spouses, transitioning workers, and now the unemployed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, particularly for black and brown people.

Mr. Bautista served 13 years in the Marine Corps, reaching the rank of Captain, and retired from the Army National Guard in 2018. He holds a master's degree in information security from Boston University and an MBA from the University of South Florida as well as multiple IT certifications. In 2019, he leveraged his personal military transitioning experience and cybersecurity expertise, and as a disabled vet, he founded Jün Cyber, a cybersecurity management consulting firm specializing in InfoSec leadership policy architectural compliance for small and mid-size businesses.

Mr. Bautista was motivated and driven by the stats of veteran suicide, his own personal PTSD diagnosis, and transition story; he soon realized that comprehensive transition training and career advisement could make a positive impact in the lives of the nearly twenty million vets worldwide.  Jün Cyber Ohana, is a developing non-profit, full-service transition, technical training, certification, mentorship, career preparation, and placement service community for like-minded professionals.

We are amid the 2020 Global COVID-19 Pandemic, which has fueled an increase in cybercrime, in part, due to remote work and lack of security of work-from-home (WFH) devices. Every year, approximately 200,000 men and women leave U.S. military service and return to life as civilians, a process known as “the military to civilian transition”. Veteran unemployment is up to nearly 12 percent amid coronavirus crisis. With cybercrime on the rise and vulnerabilities constantly being exposed, it is imperative that organizations take a proactive stance to protect assets and employ skilled cybersecurity professionals. 

There are many options currently available for free cybersecurity training for veterans. So why is Jün Cyber Ohana different? Our unique Ohana approach offers much more than just free training; we offer a comprehensive one-stop resource for people who desperately need it, especially in these times of uncertainty and also address the following business and social issues.

Support Vets: Many veterans struggle with the transition back to civilian life. Jün Cyber addresses this transition by offering an opportunity to join a caring community of like-minded professionals, the ability to get new training around the cyber-security skillset, acquire technology certification in demand, and readiness for employment.

Address Security Threats: Cybersecurity is a rapidly growing problem for companies of all sizes, IT departments as well as individuals – just ask anyone whose had their identity stolen.
 
Fill Industry Staffing Gap: The New York Times reports a stunning statistic: Cybersecurity Ventures predicts a 3.5 million global shortage of talent needed to fill Cybersecurity jobs by 2021. This demand exacerbated by the increase in cybersecurity crimes, such as a 238% surge in cyberattacks against banks, according to zdnet.com, due to COVID-19.

Community is at the Core of our business and Veterans want a renewed sense of purpose. We have a passion to serve the greater good. Cybersecurity threats and resourcing need is increasing, Jün Cyber seeks to fill both technical and non-technical roles that require leadership and decision-making skills that are not taught in the classroom. Jün Cyber will work to serve these critical needs. 

Next 3 Year Goals

2021

Become a 501(c)3 certified business to support veteran and other disadvantaged access to technical training and certification

Establish an internship program to allow participants to get on-the-job training and practical experience to put on their resume

Launch a new technology curriculum to include data science and business analytics

Increase the scope of qualified participants to include underserved minority groups

2022

Establish a Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) offering focused on serving non-profit and small and medium-sized businesses

Introduce partner ecosystem support and incubator programs to fund veteran and minority entrepreneurship

Expand non-profit funding campaigns

2023

Extend service offerings and partnerships in new geographies, including Canada, LATAM, EMEA and APAC to USA Allied countries to expand support veterans and transitioning military personnel

Develop a multi-language curriculum
